Custom Orthoses

Custom designed external devices used to control or counteract the effect of an actual or developing deformity.  They include braces, splints, etc. In sport the term is most commonly used to describe foot supporting insoles used to correct structural imbalance which may result in discomfort in the back, hips, knees or feet.

Orthoses decrease the risk of further injury and make movement of the foot more efficient.

Custom Ankle Foot Orthosis // AFO

What is a custom AFO for adults?

An ankle-foot orthosis, or AFO, is a support intended to control the position and motion of the ankle, compensate for weakness, or correct deformities. AFOs can be used to support weak limbs, or to position a limb with contracted muscles into a more normal position.

In addition, AFOs are used to control foot drop caused by a variety of neurologic and musculoskeletal disorders.

Custom Scoliosis Orthosis // LSO // TLSO

What is a LSO ( Lumbar Sacral Orthosis) ?

A custom molded LSO is designed to control gross movement of the trunk and motion of the vertebrae in one or more planes of motion, lateral/flexion, anterior flexion/posterior flexion, or axial rotation. These orthosis are custom fit to each patient by shaping plastic panels held in place by fabric straps.

What is a TLSO ( Thoracolumbosacral orthosis) ?

A custom molded TLSO is one of two main types of braces used to correct the lateral (sideways) curve of the spine in scoliosis. Patients can wear this brace to correct spinal curves whose apex is at or below the eighth thoracic vertebra.

A custom TLSO can also be used to stabilize the spine after surgery or for the healing of fractured vertebrae.

Wound Care // Diabetic

What is a Charcot Restraint Orthotic Walker (C.R.O.W.)?

A CROW is prescribed for patients with a diagnosis of Charcot Foot.  It is a clamshell (two piece) design that provides complete/total contact over the shin, calf and foot.

The CROW reduces all motion in the ankle and foot to reduce potential for further injury.  It is fully padded on the inside, and the bottom is covered with a material similar to shoe soling.  It is not worn with a shoe.

The CROW boot is the best protection possible for patients who have foot ulcers that aren’t healing or need support for their Charcot ankle.

For patients that do not have Charcot, we have diabetic shoes and custom inserts. These shoes provide the protection and comfort many patients need due to their diabetes or neuropathy.
